Alumni President meets varsity authorities on giving facelift to OAU Staff School

Ike Diaku, President of the Obafemi Awolowo University Staff School Alumni Association, on Monday met with the authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife on the need to give a befitting facelift to the institutions Staff School.

It was Diakus visit to the School after over 15 years.

The visit was preceded with a mini reunion with alumni members residing in Ife, on Sunday 2nd February 2025, at the OAU Dam Resort, relaxing with alumni members on a boat ride, good music and fine cuisine.

He commenced the tour of the school facilities on Monday, accompanied by the Vice President, Treasurer, and a few other Ile-Ife based alumni members. Others who accompanied him are the Head Mistress, PTA Executive officers and other members, as well as the contractors handling the school buildings and infrastructure repairs.

Acting on previous requests for assistance by the PTA, the Alumni President said it has become expedient to meet with the teachers, members of the PTA and contractors, to discuss priorities, extent, feasibility and costing of required repairs. After completing the inspection, the priorities were slightly altered as it was discovered the school badly needed to renovate Primaries 1 – 4, the Library and the sick bay.

The alumni iterated that the change became expedient because of the need to prioritize the provision of conducive learning environment. The President therefore said work will commence with the renovation of classes three, two and one in that order, before considering others.

Following the on-site assessment, the contingent paid a visit to the Universities Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) Prof (Mrs). Olubola Babalola who is the Chairman of the OAU Staff School Board. She was very pleased to receive them. The president of the association thanked her for making out time out of her very busy schedule to meet with them. Challenges and plans of the alumni were discussed. The DVC pledged the unwavering support to the alumni. She confirmed she had been previously in communication with the president, this the president also affirmed.

The DVC informed the Alumni delegates that the VC was aware of their visit and happy would be willing come down from his office after a very important engagement.

The VC who joined shortly after was excited to meet with delegates of the association, especially, the President, who he was familiar with and had worked on a project with, while he was Chairman of the OAU Staff School Board in 2020. He affirmed the promises of the DVC. The atmosphere was very warm and cordial.
